1. 1. Plan book or diary of subjects and activities

   Keep.

   A plan book, diary or other written record. It shows the subjects you taught and what your child did. The law asks for it for a child under 16. Log the hours there too. That is the easiest way to show the 1,000 hours. Other written proof that shows the same things also counts.

2. 2. Work samples and a record of evaluations

   Keep.

   Samples of your child's schoolwork. A record of how you checked your child's progress. The law asks for both for a child under 16. You keep them. You do not send them. Only the local prosecuting attorney may review home school records. A good habit: keep at least two years on hand, and keep high school records for good.

   Where.

   A folder at home.
