Immunizations
Louisiana's school shot law covers a person entering one of these:a school or kindergartena college or universitya proprietary or vocational school, which is a trade schoola licensed day care centerA home study program the state school board approves is none of those places.Another law counts approved home study as meeting the rule that children must be schooled. It does not count it as school attendance. So the school shot law does not reach an approved home study program. One other law does reach home study: the meningococcal shot.
You do. 1.The year your child is 11, check the meningococcal box that fits.It is on the home study form.2.Send no shot record to the state.3.Keep the shot record or the doctor's note at home.

Shots cannot decide eligibility for athletics; carry a copy of your written dissent in case anyone asks for a shot record.
Can my child play? See the full guideThe state says. The shot law names colleges and universities. So a college student is covered. So is a dual enrollment student.Dual enrollment means taking college classes in high school. The same written dissent or doctor's statement works there. That is because the exemption covers every school or place the law lists.
You do. 1.Before the first class, ask the college registrar what shot record it wants. The registrar is the office that signs up students.2.Not following the shot schedule? Send the same signed written dissent you would give a school.

The state says. The shot law names licensed day care centers. The written dissent or doctor's statement works there, the same as at a school. An outbreak is when a sickness spreads.Say there is an outbreak of a disease a shot can prevent. The office of public health can advise the center to keep out a child without shots. The child stays out until the incubation period ends. That is the time between catching the sickness and getting sick.
You do. 1.At registration, give the licensed day care center a signed written dissent.2.Keep a copy at home.3.Plan for your child to stay home during an outbreak of a disease your child has no shot for.
