Keep the records

What the state wants on file, and where each one lives.

1. 1. Withdrawal letter (only if your child was in a school)

   Keep.

   A dated copy of the letter or withdrawal form you gave the school. The state school board highly recommends the letter. It shows you plan to keep teaching your child, so the school is less likely to report your child as truant. Keep any mail receipt with it.

   Keep.

   Illinois law sets no record keeping rules. The state school board strongly encourages good records. If anyone asks for proof of your child's education, it is your job to show it. The state school board names report cards, course outlines, attendance logs and test results as examples. Work samples help too.
